An increasing amount of Hispanic decent residents are moving into the neighborhood which may create language issues. The ratings for public schools in the Gateway neighborhood are average at best with most being rated as a 5/10 according to GreatSchools.org. High student to teacher ratios further create problems. Well over 20% of Gateway children attend private schools signaling a lack of faith in the public education system but also adding increased cost burdens of Gateway families. Just over 40% of the Gateway neighborhood has a bachelor degree which is a contributing factor to the economic stress seen in this neighborhood. As the skills gap continues to increase, the ability for the residents of Gateway to find meaningful work decreases. Economic upward mobility is limited. Harvard and UC Berkely estimate that children in the Gateway community have a less than 35% chance of making $58,000 or more. |
